Traffic Management Officer

• Full-time Permanent position based in Darwin
• Base salary $92,733 - $96,775 + 12% superannuation
• 6 weeks annual leave, 15 days personal leave

City of Darwin is seeking a Traffic Management Officer to join our Technical Services team within the Innovation Hub. This is a specialist role responsible for designing, reviewing and appraising traffic management plans across our road network, ensuring legislative compliance, and providing expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.

This role suits an experienced traffic management practitioner who enjoys technical problem-solving, mentoring others, and playing a key role in keeping our roads safe during works and events.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate, consult and provide appraisals on Traffic Management Plans and associated Traffic Guidance Schemes for council works, events, and external stakeholder projects on City of Darwin Road reserves.
• Lead the review and ongoing implementation of traffic management procedures for City of Darwin.
• Act as the subject matter expert on traffic management design and implementation, including appraising, monitoring and reporting on traffic management, and undertaking design for internal works where required.
• Monitor and interpret relevant legislation, regulations, By-laws and standards to maintain compliance.
• Conduct random audits of road reserves and City of Darwin land to ensure traffic management is implemented as approved, with follow-up action where required.
• Support the Human Resources and Safety team in coordinating Work Zone Traffic Management Training with RTOs.
• Maintain a presence on relevant advisory boards, including police, fire and emergency services.
• Mentor in-house Traffic Management accredited reviewers and process work permits as required.

You are a technically strong traffic management professional with sound judgement and the confidence to provide specialist advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders. You bring meticulous attention to detail, strong knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, and enjoy mentoring others to build capability across the team.

You are collaborative, adaptable, and committed to workplace health and safety, professional conduct and continuous learning.

Position Prerequisites

• Traffic Management Designer (Non-Practitioner) Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TMD1)
• Traffic Management Designer (Non-Practitioner) Skill Set for High Volume Roads (TMD2)
• Minimum 3 years' experience with design, appraisals and implementation of Traffic Management Plans
• General Construction Industry - White Card
• Current C Class Driver's Licence
• National Criminal History Check

Desirable

• Certificate in Civil Construction or relevant experience
• Traffic Management Designer Skill Set (Practitioner) for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TMD1)
• Traffic Management Designer Skill Set (Practitioner) for High Volume Roads (TMD2)
